Start with Pablo Neruda. :) I find Full Woman, Fleshy Apple, Hot Moon (book of translated poems) to be absolutely beautiful.

Thanks for the recommendation! Amazon didn’t have any info on it, but B&N did:

Full Woman, Fleshly Apple, Hot Moon is a new presentation of the poetry of the most widely read and loved poet of the twentieth century, translated and read by a master of poetic expressiveness. Out of the great profusion of Neruda’s poetry, Stephen Mitchell has selected forty-nine poems and brought them to life for a whole new generation of readers and listeners. These are poems of a happy man, deeply fulfilled in his sexuality, at home in the world, in love with life and its infinite particular forms, overflowing with the joy of language. They are large-hearted, generous poems, resonant with a humor that is rare in poetry. We enter them with delight, and leave them with exhilaration.

I just inter-library-loaned it…

Come to think of it, I got my copy at the B&N. lol. Let me know how you like. There is a beautiful poem in there (maybe) titled “The Horses” which has some fantastic imagery… I also like “Ode to the Artichoke” because it’s charming and the “Ode to Laziness” I actually have quoted in my office:

Get up, sister ode
I have promised to care for you,
Do not be afraid of me.
I will crown you among my odes.
